The economy is so bad people are really not spending money right now in fear of a complete economic collapse as we are being pushed into a socialist government during a really bad recession.
People can't make purchases of non essentials when there's little hope of future incomes. The people that are working are in fear of losing their jobs at some point because of the economic downturn and hesitate to spend.
Large companies feel the same fear with shrinking profits so they hold on to the millions of dollars they have and keep laying off workers.
I'm looking forward to the sales increases after the 2012 election giving consumers more confidence that they can spend money knowing their future income will be stable and steady.
