She was a busy women dedicated to the career she had spent her life building just because that's what made her happy. She had many friends and acquaintances in her life and wanted to find a family atmosphere that was accepting of her bond to her career and her always being gone. The search for this was steady but slow with some possibilities if she could only find the deep connection that seemed to be illusive.
He was a young stray under a year old that escaped the place he wasn't happy with. He wandered the neighborhoods surviving off grass, foliage and water from sprinkler systems that turned on in the dark of the night. He was an intelligent young sniffer that always managed to escape the detection of people that were out to catch him. He finally came upon a neighborhood that flourished with plentiful grass and many sprinkler systems that moistened his small young body with fresh clean water every night.
Her home was in the neighborhood the young pup made his home and he saw people coming and going in their normal everyday lives. When he put his eyes on her for the first time as she was entering her car inside the garage that had just opened up from across the street his tail started wagging and his face lit up with a bright shine that would be an attraction for anyone. As always she was in a hurry and did not notice him across the street and hopped in her car and left to start her busy work day. He automatically walked across the street and went into her yard that had plenty of grass, bushes and an active sprinkler system and her place of residence became his adopted place of residence also. He found a comfortable place in her bushes to rest himself and wait for her.
She returned later that evening after darkness had set in and as her car rolled into the driveway the garage door opened up and he sprang to his feet and started moving towards the opened garage. When her car was fully enclosed in the garage the door closed and he just sniffed around the driveway for several moments then returned to his place in her yard that was now his home. For several days this routine was the normal and he would actually see the woman he was drawn to after she opened the garage door before entering her car each morning and then returning in the evening only to see her car roll into the garage and the garage door close before she exited the vehicle.
On a cool Sunday morning this routine did not happen so he wandered the yard then returned to his spot in the bush. In the late morning the garage door opened up and he stood up as she walked into her yard to care for her plants and do a quick sweep of her walkway. As she walked she notice some dog droppings and wondered who's dog was making her yard their dumping ground. This was a problem! As she walked her yard she noticed a bright smiling face with a hanging tongue hidden just behind one of her bushes that was full of excitement. She lowered herself down to a kneeling position and a big smile too broke out on her face as she put her arms out and voiced the words, "Come Here Boy (or girl)". At this point she became less concerned about the dog droppings and only was concerned about the happy dog that was in her bush.
She set the broom aside so not to scare him and he started to move out of the bush with a wild wagging tail and sounds of soft squeaking from being really excited. She knew at this point he was a friendly dog and went from a kneeling position to a sitting position. She whistled softly and said again, "Come Here" with a big smile on her face. He moved briskly towards her and sniffed her outstretched hands. After a moment she petted him then started to scratch his back and he moved up against her crossed legs. She moved her smiling face towards his and he gave her several full tongue licks across her lips as her smile became even bigger and covered her face completely.
They played with each other for about 30 minutes and her first thought after they had become consumed with each other was, "Are You Hungry? You Need Some Water". She had to find a bowl to put some water in for him so she urged him to follow her into the garage and he did willingly without hesitation. They both went into her house where she retrieved a bowl hardly used and put some water in it. She placed the bowl full of water on the kitchen floor and he lapped up the water until he could no longer hold anymore. She then rummaged through her cabinets to find something her newly found dog friend would like to eat. She did not have much since she mostly ate on the run but did have some cheese slices and bread because grilled cheese sandwich's were one of her favorite meals. She knew bread wasn't a proper food for a dog but she gave him some bread and cheese slices just to fill his belly until she could get to the store.
The bond between the two was already set and she knew if his owner did not appear she would become the dogs new family member. She was already set to keep him because of the instant bond. She has always been a dog woman but with her busy schedule didn't really have to much time to care for a dog. She thought to herself since he was here and they bonded instantly she would have to make some time to care for him.
She grabbed a pen and piece of paper to create the list of all the items that were needed in order for her to take care of her new found family member. She made her way over to the patio door and slid it open and walked out as he followed. She had a sizable back yard so that wasn't going to be a problem. She checked the gates and fencing to make sure he could not escape her because that was not an option even though he had not stepped off her property since he stepped onto it and followed her around as if there was an invisible leash keeping them together. A leash and a harness she put on her list of things to own for him.
She couldn't take him to the doggy store because she didn't have a leash yet so she put the bowl of water on the patio along with an old comfortable blanket that had not been discarded. She was going to have to leave him in the back yard while she made hast to the doggy store to purchase what was needed for his care.
He squeaked some when she closed the patio door and walked away but she had to do it until she was able to get a dog door installed. She hurried to the doggy store and made the purchases for him she needed to make including the dog door. A harness, leash, bowls, food, treats and tennis balls were at the top of her list for him as she was still smiling walking up and down the aisles of the store. She had some old towels too he could shake and tear up. She knew he was a youngster and as she walked past the puppies for sale she was of the thought her new dog needed a brother or sister to keep him company while she was away for the many long hours at work.
She wanted another dog to keep him company so she pondered the thought of walking through the animal shelters with him so she would be able to get another dog that would get along with him well. Sure, as soon as she could get another day off or wait until the following Saturday or Sunday she would do just that.
She arrived back at her home, walked over to the sliding patio door as he jumped up barking with excitement seeing her approach. She opened the sliding patio door and he lunged into the house jumping up on her with his squeaks of happiness. She knew now that she had permanence in her life that made her extremely happy besides her job.
